Missing Ethernet Properties 2012

description

I have replaced a network card on a 2012 server and ran Ghostbuster to remove the old devices.

When I put in the static IP on the new network card the static IP sets but when you go back into the Ethernet properties the Dialogue box displays no detail and is set back to DHCP even though the Static Ip is present in ipconfig.
It could be a cosmetic issue but a concerning one.

I have tested this on 2012 R2 VM with the same results. it does not seem to affect 2008 or 2003 servers.

Ghostbuster does uninstall the device driver but (my guess) the network drivers settings (caused by plugging in a cable and detecting a network+router), are not part of it.

I expect that the device adapter properties (the card settings) are wiped during an uninstall, but not the ip protocol stuff as it's part of the networking settings and not the actual adapter.

Besides when you install a network driver it does not create any network settings, those are stored when you plugin a cable.

Thus the installer for the devices does not know it and will probably not clear/uninstall it, like all windows installers do (they only remove what they wrote).

To fix the above issue on 2012 server do the following in regedit

delete the following key

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\Config

The Config key will be re-created by the OS the next time you go into etherenet adaptor ipv4 settings.
